If you do a search under "prolapse", there's a lot of info there in several posts, including about lubricating a bit before gently putting her parts back inside.

Sending good wishes,
JJ

Edited to add that your pics posted while I was typing this post - glad you found your camera! Your girl's situation looks workable! Incidentally, do you know when she last laid an egg? Is she usually a daily layer?

Use preparation H. It not only keeps the tissue moist but it also helps retract the vent. Also you need to keep her isolated because if the other chickens pick at her vent she can hemorrhage and die.

JJ - she has NEVER laid before. I think this may be half of the issue. I felt around gently and could not feel and eggbound but she it still continuing to push. she is now dark and quiet.

we do not have preparation H, the nearest store that will be open is 30 minutes away.

Better start driving then.

There's no other solution and if you leave her untreated she will end up being unable to retract at all and have to be put down.

What you are seeing for prolapse looks rather mild, that is why I ran it by some of the people in chat to see if they agreed. And that was the general opinion there too.

Is she also acting egg bound?

i doubt my family will go for that, quite honestly. and i can't drive.

yes she is acting egg bound, pushing and squatting and what not. Again, I have gently probed and found no immediate egg, only the oviduct,

Preparation H $5.99
vs.

Vet Trip $99.00

See which they will agree to first.

well. vet trip is not an option at all. frankly we don't have the money. there is NO possibility of seeing a vet at all. Let alone a bird specialist.

Well then the kindest thing to so in this case is to just euthanize the chicken since you can't or are unable to treat the chicken. No need to make it suffer.
