What is going on with my chicken? What I thought was a blocked vent looks way worse. I soaked her in a warm bath and removed as much of her poop that I could. We watched her walk around and she had very little success popping on her own. She pushes but nothing really comes out. Please help!

Hi @LisaNova Welcome To BYC
Can you take her to a vet?

When was the last time she laid an egg?
Can you soak her in epsom salts to see if that will help get things moving - you may have to try to pull out more poop - is it bloody?
When you helped her before, did it feel like she may have an egg stuck?
Try to get fluids into her after you clean her out more.

It looks like her abdomen is a little bloated too - what does it feel like - hard, soft, fluid filled etc.?

@Wyorp Rock

Hi-I took your advice and immediately brought her to the vet yesterday. It turned out to be a grape-sized mass (in the oviduct?) that was causing it to block her ability to get all of her poop out and based on how underweight she was, they thought it was cancer. Unfortunately, we made the decision to euthanize her because she would have just continued to suffer. :o(

I'm so sorry you lost her:hugs
I am glad that you were able to get her seen - unfortunately it seems that cancer, tumors and reproductive disorders are all too common in laying hens and there is really nothing that can be done. It's very sad, but ending her suffering was the right thing to do.

Thank you! You're right about the cancer...this is our second one we had to put down because of cancer. :o(
