Pros, Cons, Waste of Time?

My first coop was actually a wooden playhouse that I bought off Craigslist for under 100$. Then I modified it to have nest boxes, a top door and closed the back up. It does work. There is a ramp that goes in the front but in this picture it had been taken off so the coop could be leveled.View attachment 2960159
Super cool. I was hoping someone had attempted it and I wasn't just thinking crazy. Lol. I see them for sale used all the time and it just kind of clicked one day.

Oooh, I never thought about that! A-frames have the most basic structure.
:)
A-frames, while easier to build, often have issues with ventilation (due to the fact that you're missing long side walls) and square footage, as coops are often elevated in those builds and the usable floor space ends up being much less than the square footage of the base.

This is what I was going to say.

They look appealing from the standpoint of easy build and savings in materials, but they're not very functional.

It seems genius when I hear it, but also when I think about it, I hated the ventilation of an A-frame rental we had years ago. So we'll throw that to the back of the pile for something else. :)

get free pallets and learn to build a Simple structure.

How many chickens? build it 4x as big as anyone says ;)
Absolutely, I'm going to start my pallet hunt today. Haha. 4x as big as anyone says. Love it, hubby better watch out. I'll build a chicken mansion. 😂🤣

@aart unfortunately, this conversation sparked my memory about an A-frame rental we had years ago and the ventilation was absolutely terrible. I don't feel it would be a good setup with our summer temps.
