Fantastic news about Mouse!

I've had a hawk attack my chicken before. But it died... I don't know any tips to help it heal.

If the bird likes being handled, give it lots of attention. If not, leave it be. This will calm it down and make it feel like it's safe. Give it a good amount of food and water, and maybe some treats if you can afford them. After it's healed and she's out of shock, you should be safe to return her to the flock.

I'm so very sorry for your loss of a beloved pet.

Mouse is the personable type....she cherishes company. We cuddled her in a warm towel while a state of shock remained. Food and water have been provided, and I even offered her yogurt day before yesterday. Thankfully, I think shock subsided.

Pleased to read Mouse is making a recovery. The will to live is incredible in some chickens. It’s also good imo that Mouse wants to be out and about and presumably with her flock mates.

Sorry that I have not seen the updates this week because of Thanksgiving holidays, but I am so glad to hear that Mouse is recovering, and doing well. You have done a great job with her. I was not sure that she would be able to overcome her wounds, but she really is a little fighter. I am hoping that she continues to get better.

Agreed....considering Mouse initially looked dead when I scared the hawk off, it's amazing she's made it this far. I count her spunk as a good sign, too.

Gorgeous! If any of the bantams are colored eggers, I would imagine you've some lovely layers.

I changed the dressing on Mouse's abdominal wound tonight, which also provided the perfect opportunity to check things out. Honestly, I'm a little concerned. There was discharge on the gauze, which appeared greenish in color. Could this indicate infection? Didn't notice an offensive odor.

We did, and will continue to do, just that. Admittedly, it was the first time in a few days changing her dressing....I balked a little due to the possibilities of infection, plus I didn't want to cause distress. In the long run, probably not the best decision on my part. Would you suggest I refresh the gauze every day? Every other day?
