Yesterday morning DH let the chickens out of the coop and my rooster, Guillermo got busy with his usual routine of having his way with one of the girls. DH said during this process, Juanita (the pullet) dropped what looked to be an unfinished egg on the ground, and then all the chickens gathered around it and gobbled it up. I didn't get an egg from Juanita yesterday, so I know it was her egg for the day. Is this normal? DH said it looked like an egg in the membrane. Just got me a bit worried.

They are getting plenty of calcium. I give them oyster shells and all the eggs they've laid have been beautiful, big and nice hard shells.

If she is just a pullet, the activity of mating could have caused her to drop it early. Might just have been the way it was going to be laid anyway. The strange things pullets lay.

She hasn't laid another egg since that day

. Still not sure what's going on. She seems fine, she's eating drinking. Hopefully she starts back up.

My pullet did the same thing. Twice. She had great nutrition...she just had weird laying habits in the beginning. Shell less eggs one day, no eggs for 3 days, 2 eggs in one day. It was interesting but she is fine now. Very consistent. Usually 3 days on, 1 day off.
