Pullet or Cockerel White Leghorn

Well the roosters we have think she's a pullet, so I've decided that's what it is, despite a super big comb. She is getting frostbite on it so I've been bringing her in at night and she makes the funniest noises and is a real character. None of the other chickens look like her. For a while I thought she was androgynous, but she's starting to sound like she wants to lay an egg... so I'll let you know. Thanks! Sorry for the glary pix.

I would say Hen. Yes she has a HUGE COMB and big wattles, but she is acting more like a Hen then anything else. Also her legs are not big and she is small for how old she is.Give it a month or so she should be laying very soon.

Our leghorn hen has the biggest comb I've ever seen and I think it was about the same, if not bigger than yours at that age, I'm no expert on sexing or anything so I wouldn't really have a clue, but just a little bit of feedback since you were wondering about the comb size.

My White LH gals have huge combs, which eventually flop over. I had a White LH rooster and I was amazed he could hold his head up with the gargantuan comb he grew. We used to laugh he had to face the wind and never turn his head or he'd sail away......

Chicken newbie here. What are saddles and wattles? Are wattles the red things that come out below the beak?

Yes, wattles are the fleshy bits below the beak. As for combs, when I was a newbie, I didn't know hens grew combs at all - i thought i had EIGHT cockerels, my first eight chicks purchased as pullets. Turned out only one was a cockerel, and it took til he crowed to figure it out. He had a pea comb, which is harder to "tell" if you (like me) had never seen that type of comb.

The saddle is the formation of draped feathers on the back, near the tail feathers. Hackles are the neck feathers, and in most breeds, the rooster hackle feathers come to points, while hens hackle feathers are rounded. Adult roosters of many breeds grow very long hackle feathers, almost like manes.

What about this one??? Pullet or Rooster? He/She is about 7 weeks old

Someone suggested White Leghorn because of the comb but I'm a chicken newbie so any thoughts are helpful.

3rd one back.

I have one that looks like that! I have been researching that today, and I THINK it's an Amberlink. See how the ears are red? I believe all Leghorns have white ears. Yours will probably start to get more speckled feathers in the near future.

Definate cockerel. Large comb and wattle and stubby tail feathers.
