pullet or cockerel???

This is one of our three young chickens - they're about 5 months old now, and one of them seems to have the elusive gender problem. This week I'm leaning more heavily towards boy-chicken, not least because he/she's crowed at me the last two mornings. Panicked shushing doesn't seem to dampen his/her enthusiasm. There were also some very lame crowing attempts at about 2 months from the same little darling, but the intervening 3 months were very hen-like, with no crowing. And no one is laying any eggs yet. We may have a possible re-homing solution for him, if he's a him, at a nearby horse barn, but I'm still foolishly hoping maybe she's just confused. Any thoughts or opinions from anyone with more chicken-rearing experience??

ALSO, this would leave us with only two young hens, which I'm not sure I think is "enough" - can we introduce a new third into the tiny flock? Should she be the same age, or older? or will there be a chicken war?
