I'm getting worried that one of my girls is a boy. This beautiful bird I believe is a brahma/aruacana mix approx. 4 months old. This is my first experience with chickens but I have not seen many hens with long tail feathers like this one. I'm hoping she is a she and NOT a he! Sadly I can not have a rooster in my neighborhood.

Experienced identification would be appreciated.

Its also the pointy hackle and saddle feathers that say boy to me in addition to the tail feathers. See the classic way the saddle feathers curve down towards the ground? You don't get that in a hen....

For comparison... (same breed)

Hen (pullet, actually)

See the difference in their feathers? The roo has those long, curved tail feathers + those long feathers around his neck and just before the tail (saddle area). Took me a while to be able to see the difference too.

Dang. He's so beautiful. The farmer I bought him from is swapping him for a female tomorrow. All of your speedy replies are greatly appreciated!!
