Pullet or roo? I’m not sure. Six week old BPR. Help!

It is a cockerel.... ie a male bird under a year old.

Definitely a cockerel. The cockerels are lighter in color than the pullets.

That’s what I suspected but I wasn’t quite sure. I’m happy to have him. I hope he’s gonna be a good protector of my girls

My barred rock cockerel is already a little spitfire. If I reach down to grab him he raises his hackles and pecks at me lol. I’m hoping it means he will be a good protector for the ladies

I bought what were supposed to be all pullets from tractor supply. It’s okay though. Peep is a cutie pie

Your best bet is to limit their contact once they get into teenager stage. If you have the room, separate them from the girls (but keep them together) in a bachelor flock. They will keep each other company without the hormonal pressure of needing to mate. If you want to breed one or the other of them, introduce them to their females separate from the other cockerel, or you will have fighting.

Mine is shaping up to be the same way. He still likes me to hold him though and he loves to perch on my shoulders
