Based on her color and comb, I’m pretty sure this 4ish month old is a pullet, but she’s started growing what look like saddle feathers. Am I mistaken, or do EE’s sometimes get saddle-like feathers in the pullets?
Thanks!
I started suspecting that about a week ago, when "her" saddle feathers started to curve like that. Its comb got redder recently, too. But it was so pale for so long, just like the other little girls it hangs out with.
The saddle feathers are broad and rounded, and don't look male. But the tail itself is very unusual-- those laced feathers have the appearance of being small sickle feathers that males get. But if the age is correct, then it must be a pullet, one with unusual tail feathers.
I did have an ee bantam trick me. I thought for sure she was a roo because of the long pointy feathers and her posture when she walked, also her attitude. But she turned out to be a hen and is very sweet.
I have a SS that everyone kept telling me was a rooster bc she had green sheen and long tail feathers that sickled.... she is definitely a pullet... she lays eggs lol
