Pullets can crow!

I concur with the others who suspect you have cockerels in your brood. Lack of comb size and spurs at this age is no indication of them not being boys, but an early attempt at crowing is a big clue.

Examine the comb buds on the top of the heads of all of your youngsters. Compare. Are there any that appear more red than the others? Those are the ones who are likely trying to crow and are cockerels. Also, if these are a breed that produces multi-colored rooster feathers, if you part the feathers on the back and examine the pin feathers emerging under that outer layer, you may see some very bright colors not present in the other pullets.

This is my "crower". It's a leghorn mix that was given to me with several others at a week old. Not sure you can tell much by these pics. Thanks for helping out a new chicken mama. :)

Cockerel. so are any others with similar combs at this age. Pullets, even Leghorn or Leghorn mixes, won't have that much comb and color until around 4 months.

Okay, these are 3 of my 18 babies who match in size, combs, and waddles. (from right to left) This is Storm and Dora (Plymouth rock breed) and the white is Swan (the one I sent earlier and who, I might add, had the impressive crowing).

Storm doesn't crow at all but has been the chicken yard bully ever since they were peeps. And Dora will crow with me on command!!! She(?) has been like a puppy to me since she was only a month old and follows me around whenever I'm with the flock. I bought my Plymouth chicks at a local farm supply chain and was reassured they were all pullets. I'm fairly sure that I'm going to have to change Swan's name to something a bit more cockerel(ish). And if the comb is the sure sign of a cockerel....well...it looks like I've got three musketeers.

Wow sounds like an alpha hen to me. Nice post!
