Pullets need Mamma

My silkie pullet will let pretty well anyone sit under her lol. She has 2 chicks here, only the one visible, the other is under the other wing, and the little cuckoo silkie decided to get in there too and tucked herself up under the older girl’s butt fluff. The 3 also accompanied the silkie to the nesting box and piled in on top of her when she went to lay an egg. :p i don’t have the Easter egger that’s under her wing anymore, but while she was still here she was still tucking herself under there even though she was almost twice the size of mama. Haha

ADORABLE!!!!

They are trying to 'hide', have seen many aged birds do this, it's pretty normal.
Chickens are so smart! Maybe that's why we feel like we have to do everything to make them feel comfortable- they show they have feelings!
I see Hawks flying around every day when I have them outside of their pen although at that moment the sky was clear, anyway to my sight! I I've often wondered if chickens can perceive from the surrounding birds when there are Hawks in the vicinity. Sometimes the Hawks are far away when the chickens scatter for cover, so that I think a sound alerts them. Whether it's a noise the Hawks make or warnings from other birds I don't know. Easter eggers sight is partially blocked by whisker feathers.

the hiding is instinct.....not so smart when they are hiding from me coming into the coop for nighttime head count and they dive under their neighbor :gig

Chicken have keen eyesight, they may see the hawk and definitely take note of wild birds alarm calls.
