Pumpkin Hulsey Color Genetics?

Pics
beutiful pumpkin i got, friendly, the color i got from him and hen orange, gold, white cream orange, leg 90% yellew and 10% green, 100 straight comb. see youtube at link below or search pumpkin gamefowl

Pumpkin is thought to be Wheaten with the Db gene. The light varients look similar to the Pink eyed dilutes allelic to the c recessive white families. I realize they had normal eyes, but it could be another similar gene. They are also similar to the Opal mutant now in Old English bantams. This mutation sported from a pure black line and inherits as a simple recessive. Tim

Are there other large fowl breeds with the pumpkin diluter? I have pumpkin diluted Serama's but they're much too small for my project.
I'm looking for a pumpkin dilute rooster for my project.
If anyone here has a rooster that is the paler of the pumpkin colors, I would be interested. I don't have games but I do understand the importance of keeping these roosters separated from all other roosters and I have a large all welded wire pen for safety.

I feel as though I got a little insight on the Pumpkin genetics when I purchased two Rocky Top Pumpkin Mini-Games from Rocky Top Game Farm in Mississippi. As with Pumpkin Hulseys, some of the offspring come out "white". Well, I bred the "white" one I got to some oversized red quill American Game Bantams and all of the offspring turned out with dun in the black parts. She isn't white, she is a dun/fawn mutant/sport (which ever terminology you care to use). 100% of her offspring were dun where they would have been black. It had an interesting effect on the red quill pattern.

Some have mentioned the blue dilution gene may be at work, but I now believe its the dun/fawn dilution gene. The female I have has similarities to a splash except that the splash marks are smaller and are a salmon orange, not blue. she also has the salmon breast, as would a BBR, but it is very light. For experimental purposes, I plan to do a test breeding between her and a black OEGB that I did one of my first dub jobs on this year that I saved from the cull pile.

My understanding on Serama was that there was already a "butterscotch" in Serama that was essentially the same as the pumpkin in LF Games (American as well as several of the Asian game fowl breeds - unofficially). In fact, I saw one at the Pacific Northwest Poultry Association Winter Classic last year in Stevenson Washington, except his cape and saddle were golden over the butterscotch body. It was quite striking. Unfortunately for his owner, he had a really bad comb. She thought the world of him and he did have great conformation otherwise. Unfortunately, when you have a uneven comb with huge gaps between the points, well, it's the first thing anyone, including a judge, notices regardless of the breed or how they "present" when you toss them on the table. But, I'd be happy if I could recreate the look of that plumage in an American Game Bantam.

I could see where some Pumpkins may carry the Dun Gene. I also believe Red Quill to be one of the original parents of the Pumpkin Hulsey. Red Quill is also said to carry the (ig) cream gene. I have also seen Red Quill Dutch bantams that were very close to Pumpkin coloration with Golden orange hackle and saddle and red breast and body. The key may be to cross Wheaten with Red Quill carrying Dun. Red Quill are red, recessive ig cream makes for a cream bird not red, Red Quills are wildtype(e+) at the e locus and have Db(dark brown) as columbian restrictor, they also carry Pg(pattern gene), the Red Quill males, are described as Black Tailed Red roosters. very different from the Almost completely restricted Pumpkin Hulsey roosters(some are Completely Restricted like self buff) if these birds(Pumpkin Hulsey) carry a pheomelanin dituler I would say its Di(Dominant Dilute) the same gene found on self buff birds like buff Leghorns...pumpkin hulsey carry alot of restrictors not found on Quill birds,

Yep, those Longscore Red Quills are actually Myer Red Quills from Texas. The pattern on Mr. Myer's Red Quill hens is the best I've seen, unfortunately, he has large birds (5 pound hens at their smallest) and it would set me back bad on size, which is one of my main battles in getting them to conform to the standard is their size.

I'm very tempted to try the Red Quill Dutch (actually, I'd like them better as a Nankin because I'm not fond of white earlobes, but the Nankin people seem pretty adamant about Nankins only coming in red-tailed black - well, at least the males would remain red tailed blacks. ; )

Unfortunately, I don't think I have room for that.

I like the bronze tails (though darker than the one in the previous post), which is why I got into this whole project in the first place. Red-laced black sickle feathers also work for me.

Many families of Redquills are big. I've heard of them getting up to 7lbs and the hen I had was bigger than my whitehackle broodcocks.
