I recently read that pumpkin is a natural de-wormer. So I got some for my chickens, question is how do I feed it to them? Do I just cut a chunk and give it to them. Or is there something I need to do first?

Our chickens love pumpkin. We simply cut in half and quarter it or cut in thirds..it doesn’t really matter as they will love it.

I slice the pumpkin in big pieces and bake it on a sheet for 45? Minutes, then let it cool. It softens up the shell. The girls eat it all!

But, since we are on the subject of pumpkins and chickens, might I ask if anyone actually gives pumpkin to their chickens as a treat? I have too much pumpkin in the garden, but was thinking the seeds are too big for them and the meat too firm.

ETA: chickens in place of chicks.

I like the suggestion about microwaving or putting in oven to soften it. Have not tried pumpkin yet, but want to.

I noticed mine loved cantaloupe but that’s pricey so I bought them a pumpkin & everyday cut a slice of it & they loved it to

I just cut them in half to get them started and they love them! Same with melons. In a few days, they will eat everything down to the rind, which will look like a piece of paper by then. Our local feed store sells a product called Marvin's wormer, it is in capsules. I give each hen a capsule once a month, as per the instructions, as a prophylactic. Don't know what's in it, probably food grade diatomaceous earth or something like that. I don't put much stock in vets; most of them just deal with dogs and cats and all of them (that I've dealt with anyway) charge too much.

Well, I put a small pumpkin, cut in half and raw, in the pens a couple days ago and they have gobbled it up.

Yeah, pumpkin is a natural dewormer and fairly effective. You can use a food processor for the seeds if you have small chickens and cook the flesh of it’s too hard.
