Pumpkins

All of our chickens will eat any mellon right down to the rind. They will eat any veggie you toss out. Oops, not onions!

How old do chickens have to be before you can give them pumpkin, squash etc?
Do you need to wait until they are 20 weeks old before feeding them things other than their growth feed?
They are on the second stage feed now - 13, 14, 15 and 16 weeks old

There is some one locally that posts on craigslist asking for free un-carved pumpkins for their chickens

Can't hurt to try and ask.

DH called me this afternoon about to bust his buttons off...he was so proud of himself. He took 2 dozen eggs to the fellow that gave him the pumpkins...the guy said "You are just the person I wanted to see!" Seems the owner had called him just 2 hrs before my DH arrived and told the manager to start giving away the pumpkins.

My DH said they loaded a pallet load of pumpkins in our pickup...he could have gotten more but he bought several boxes of laminate flooring on Craig's List the day before.

He said the girls will be REAL happy.
