oh that is great. Congrats

now this is my observation at my home but all my chicks while still in the brooder get cocci I am convinced it is from my cat that had it years ago. so just be on the lookout I dont know if there is any medical basis for this but I believe that even after the cocci is gone the animals can pass it on somehow. I have a large stock of Amprol and goats milk always on hand thse days.

As someone new to chicks this year ... can puppies get cocci from chicks?

We just got a 7 month old puppy. Should I be worried? Our chicks are two weeks old.

Thanks,

Scott

There are various strains of Cocci. Some affect both dogs, chickens,
and even people. Others are species specific.

The answer to your question is yes, your dog can get it from chickens
but the chickens must be infected which is unlikely in 2 week old chicks
assuming they have been in an isolated brooder.

Every batch of birds I buy or hatch get cocci around 5 weeks when I
put them out in my barn brooders. They will develop immunity
if they are introduced to it slowly enough. I've only lost 7 silkies to
it out of hundreds of birds and do not use medicated feed.
