Teddy as a puppy (around 12 weeks old)

Our 'puppies' aren't puppies any more but 2 year old young adults and quite a handful.

We stumbled across 5 Red Heeler Cattle Dog puppies at what turned out to be an Amish Puppy mill wannabe. They were living in deplorable conditions, no socializing no shots no nothing. The were just 3 months old and had been given a dead goat kid and a rabbit to eat. We talked the owner down to 5$ per dog and loaded them in the van with the intention of working with them and rehoming them.

2 years later we love them, they love us and so they stay.

Here they are after getting their first baths and taking over my utility room! When DH first saw them they were covered with mud.

Left to right: Varn, Rocki, Sidney, Diesel and in the front, Ben.

It's been a real learning experience. Their only down is that they think cats are play toys and try to chew on them. One of our cats had two encounters with them that left him worse for the wear. We think that stems from them being fed small animals when they were so young. To date we have found no way to overcome the problem so we work at keeping everyone apart!
