Puppy training advice

This is one area that I differ with you.

I have 30 acres and a long nearly 1 mile access road then a 900 foot driveway. Often my gates are open if we are coming or going during the day. Very rarely, but it does happen, a vehicle will approach. I do not want my dogs taking commands from an uninvited person.

A buddy of mine who I hadn't seen in a while stopped by to say hello. The dogs kept him pinned in his car until I released them. My buddy gets out and says " Damn, Reddogmaster, you need to train those mutts!"

I just laughed and laughed and finally said, "they are trained well enough to keep an uninvited guest pinned into his car until I let you out".

They are pets, but they are security as well.
Yes, I agree. I wouldn't want anyone else trying to get my dog to do something. My dogs are both purebred designer breeds so someone you call them and snatch them and easily make over $1,000 for them.

Curious, what is a purebred designer breed?
Yeah that’s definitely a contradictory statement. I feel like they meant popular breeds? Or like small/toy/cutesie type breeds??? But designer “breeds” aren’t even breeds at all but made up mixes that people come up with fancy names for so it’s not possible to be a designer breed and a purebred. They may use purebreds to make the designer breeds but they are not designer dogs themselves.

Ha, I had a lovely Golden who was my model and assistant in my classes for many years. My BIL came to visit and was amazed at his training. He said the dog was so well trained he bet he could get the dog to do anything so I said he could try. To his surprise the dog acted completely deaf and unresponsive. Wouldn't come, sit, nothing. He would not obey anybody but family. I used to demonstrate that in kindergartens and VBS classes to show children the importance of never going with strangers. Would put him on a Sit-stay and leave the room, telling the kids they could call his name, clap their hands, whistle or whatever to get him to come to them. He would just sit there and grin. But when I came back and told him, "Okay, go visit," he would run around the room greeting everybody. Very friendly dog. Uh. Now I am missing him, lol!

Could be like a Labradoodle or something.

Oh wow that is amazing and adorable!!! :love

Yorkshire terriers are an established, recognized AKC breed. I have no idea what she was referring to. I hope we didn't offend her. She was sharing wonderful ideas on training!
Yeah I’m not sure either! I guess maybe they could be considered somewhat designer by some since a lot of places breed both them and the mixes? But  I hope we didn’t offend her either as I agree! She had great ideas
