Pure Ameraucanas with color faults

If their parents are both ameraucanas, they are ameraucanas.

Accurately describe the pros and cons for each bird: lacing on neck is not as good as it should be, some red on shoulders, darker/lighter than preferred, etc. No bird is perfect.

He is Ameraucana then. He came from a show breeder and he is a very good looking bird, just some red on his shoulders and some cream color in his hackles and saddle feathers. He is really pretty thouh. I have him in with some EE hens and some cull CBM hens right now. He is just barely starting to try to breed a hen every now and then. I have not seen him actually try to mount one, just trying to hang onto neck feathers from time to time. Thanks for the clarification. I have a very nice blue pullet with no color faults. Maybe I will try to cross them and get more clear splash Ameraucanas... as long as that is not frowned upon.

Hi,

What variety of Ameraucana is this? Is he a Splash derivative of an approved variety? For example, is it a Splash for a Splash Wheaten?

One word of warning, be careful with folks who claim to be a "show breeder". I have been at two shows where judges awarded BB, BV, and even AOSB to obvious Easter Eggers.

If you can post pics, that would be helpful.

God Bless,

That is what I assume also... I know at our open class fair show we go by APA rules and I seen the Judge send the EE chickens back to there cages and told the people they were EEs and not Ameraucana...

Well this is an Ameraucana, but he has just that slight buff on his wings.

9 months old and still hasn't mounted a hen... but he is trying and he CAN crow now!

I think he is gorgeous... and the pullet I got with him is FABULOUS!... really amazing... I'll have to take a pic.

I truly wish I could tell you that was the case. One was a State Fair Showing but the other was not only an APA/ABA sanctioned show it was also a scheduled Ameraucana Meet!

God Bless,

Hi! Thanks for bringing this up and the thoughts on the subject.

I've been bugged since I was left this feedback about an Ameraucana with leaky red...
I have a rooster from her that is a beautiful black that has red hackle feathers coming in. Very expensive easter egger.

a) It's a beautiful Ameraucana roo with leaky red.
b) It wasn't expensive. She only paid shipping for the eggs.

I've bred for several generations to 'clean up' my Ameraucana and still working toward it. Mostly, they hatch clean blue, splash, and black but there is something recessive that pops out now and then. For all I know, it might *always* pop out every once-in-a-while in blue/black lines.
Thanks!

Dipsy, I know this is not much consolation, but I've seen you post before that there are slight "pop ups" that you have trouble with.. I really respect that. I'd rather get a less than perfect pop up from an honest breeder than take my chances elsewhere, only to hatch out poor unhealthy chicks.. The hatch rate, vitality, and growth rate from your eggs is amazing! So 1 out of 7 was not perfect?? Some people want everything for nothing.. I'm sorry you got a feedback like that.
I got one of those "pop ups" from some eggs I got from you.. I swear, it's lavender with a little red here and there.. Only a few misc spots.. but the basic color is quite lavender blue. He is amazing and I wouldn't trade him... I need to get a pic, but it's about 104 outside.. I'm not going anywhere.
