Purely Poultry owner looking for advice

If you are asking for an honest opinion I will give you one. I think your site is a bit less than titlilating in terms of information about your breeds and the things about your breeding stock that might set you apart. I have no idea how good your stock is but your site does not denote a differentiation.

I think that there is a venue in which one should promte their business and there is a venue in which one should proclaim their beleif in God. I dont beleive that the two are necessarily best if combined. I think there is a way of letting your customers know that you operate a business on Christian principles without hitting us with a sledge hammer at every turn.

In simple terms find a good web designer and marketing consultant. More importantly find a more appropriate format for spreading the word.

Thank you to those who have commented above. I would like to add for future commenters that I am not looking for any comments about the bible passages on my site. I consider my website a ministry and they will not be taken off and I will not be taking them off. It is for those people that object to it that I put them there.

I do have more photos of birds and am working on getting them up. But I am actually waiting until I get them into my shopping cart to upload them.

I agree with most of the people here about religion. You can lighten up with some simple verses, one liners instead of going all over the website. Religion sometimes do not have a place in business. To my opinion, I find it offensive to read it everytime I read thru the description of the breeds or a little information on your business. Since you will not make changes, that's ok but be mindful why you are not attracting a large number of customers and why they are turned off by it.

Yes, pictures of your stock would be most helpful, not peeled off from other hatchery's websites or private breeder's websites. You can get into alot of trouble doing that.

PayPal accounts are a big plus and alot of us have it and its secure. Any other credit card payments are very good for business.

Do you raise those poultry yourself or are you contracted out of the bigger hatcheries such as Ideal when your hatching didn't go as planned? Are you a middleman?

The photos are from the breeders that provide the chicks. I have permission to use all the photos that I have.

I do have paypal and do use it.

Purely Poultry is a customer service office that works with several different breeders.

I do not yet have my own farm because I am in college. Purely Poultry is my way of helping people with their poultry passions even though I dont have my farm yet.

I do look forward to having a farm, just not yet.

There are several hatcheries that have been around since forever and are a known quantity - you know what their reputation is, that they have been in business for a while, and that you will get hatchery chicks but that you will likely receive them in good shape.

I'm not sure if you are going on a hatchery model, where you simply get chicks of hatchery quality, or if, since you work with breeders, you are aiming for a higher quality bird? Who are these breeders? What are they breeding for - utility, SQ, what? Pics of actual breeding stock would be great.

Overall, I would like to see a lot more info. I understand what your saying about keeping all of the bible verses because you consider this to be a ministry, but it may be that in order to attract people to your website and business (and hence your ministry) the chicken info will have to be beefed up. On some sites the verses take up almost half of the space - while there are many online sites where a person can look up and read bible verses, this is the one site on the www with info about your business and the birds you offer. You may need to provide more info about that so people stick around for the ministry part.

As a christian I understand you want to keep the bible verses on your poultry website, but if you want to spread God's word you might consider have another website dedicated especifically to your ministry. It's ok to have some bible verses in your poultry website which will give some people more confidence in your product and quality of your service. Just remember that the Apostle Paul made himself to the greek as greek to gain greeks, to the jews as jew to gain some jews, etc. There are many people that are budist, muslims, indus among others living in the us. Some of them have no idea what the bible is and probably don't care either. So I think so you can run your business with christian principles which is something we need a lot in the business enviroment, but also if you want to expand your business and reach as much customers as you can, you will have to respect other believes and not eliminate but reduce your bible verses in your business website.

ok since you obviously dont want comments about the bible verses then I wont make one, so I will just say PICS PICS PICS is the best thing you can do.

And just one piece of advice cause i cant hlp myself ( I tried but my hands are just typing away lol) but why not go with maybe just a little bit of verses something that would apeal to all and actually make some people want to maybe inquire more about christianity or see the beauty in it, often I think when we use too heavy of a hand we actually turn people off not ON to the Christian path if that is your goal. Because that is what a ministry is for, to enlighted and help with faith but with the way yours is it seems almost like all you want is buisness from die hard Christians and there are a lot more people in this world that could give you more buisness, and you might even REACH some of them with a lighter touch.

Just my opinion also you say you are in college so I am assuming you are young, with age you will also find that you can reach more souls with a light loving touch not such a heavy hand. Those truely secure in their faith dont feel the need to convert everyone because they are secure and at peace with their selves and their beliefs, rather they just wait for those to ask them and then enlighten.

The reason that I am working on right now to have people purchase from me is Great prices on 200 breeds. I am working on getting it to be Great prices on 400 breeds within the next few years. Right now I need to focus on getting other things set up with the 200 breeds of poultry right now though.

I am also looking forward to having an exhibition line of poultry next year as well. My approach to poultry is that there can be two lines: one commercial hatchery type and one exhibition type. I understand the needs of both and want to be able to provide both but at this time it is more of a future strategy and not a current product line.

Our current line are utility quality birds. I do not disclose who our breeders are.

I am working on putting photos of the birds up. Right now I am so busy with emails and catalog requests and phone calls that I havent had time to work on putting up photos and such.

This friday is my last day at my outside job so I concentrate more on the things this post is talking about. I look forward to meeting what you are desiring.
