purple dots on Runner's bill? (added a pic)

i find this funny, mostly because victor is supposed to be male... He's almost 4 months old (dec. 11th) so he's still about a month off from laying if he does turn out to be a girl.

We decided if he does lay eggs, will just keep callng him victor and pretend he's a boy, lol.

he's a strange case....

I have another female Ming Mei (who is definitely female, i had her sexed early on and she's small in size and quacks really loud.)

Victor has a lot of "male traits". He had the big feet as a baby. Now they are grown he's a good pound heavier and he's a lot "fatter" than ming Mei. He's a bit more aggressive as well. He seems to push ming mei around at times and does this weird thing to her (it's like he's making low toned peepng noises while trying to nip her neck). He just seems to be a lot louder then he should be.... weird

They are still only 4 months old so no eggs or curly feathers...

Either way we love him. I wish he'd just go one way or the other. The suspense of the past month and the following is starting to get to me, lol

As they grow (until about a year old) they change. I have had ducks born with black beaks that changed to a greenish yellow at several months old. Its normal.

Did you get him as a baby and raised him with your other female? When females are raised together with no male for along time, one becomes dominant and takes on "male" characteristics. Sometimes they will even try to mate.

I have two fawn & white runner ducks -- Punch & Judy -- and they have freckled bills. I think just after I got them the freckles became pronounced and I wasn't sure if something was wrong with them, but they seemed healthy, so I didn't worry about it. Judy has very bright blue freckles and Punch has more purplish, like yours is developing.

We thought they might be one drake and one duck, because the one would always take the dominant role in the pond. We never saw any sex feathers. We consistently got one egg per day. Then one day we got 2 eggs.

They hang around our other ducks and drakes, but they are definitely a "mated" pair.

It drives me a little nuts, because it doesn't seem to me like they know what they are doing exactly, but, I guess, whatever floats your boat. LOL

A fawn and white runner drake's bill should be yellow as a juvenile and mature to a greenish yellow. A females bill should be yellow with green speckles as a juvenile and mature to a dull green.

Some ducks have speckles and spots and smudges of color on their bills but they can also have temporary changes due to molting, maturity, bruising and more. I wouldnt worry about it unless the bill becomes soft or develops a wound.

Cute duckie.

thank you everyone for the infomation! I was getting worried. I've pretty much decided that victor must be a girl ,lol... Even so we'll still call him a him and call him victor. lol

They were raised together, and it's funny because i thought my other duck seemed kinda dominate... maybe they take turns.. lol...

But thank you again! you guys proably saved me a 100$ trip to the vet telling me there's nothing wrong.
