so this chicken might be a sub breed of an aracuna, that hasn't been imported into the U.S. yet???

i would love purple eggs
my blue egg layer became predator chow
i have 2 green layers left
people don't believe my green eggs are natural.

I agree with Becky, LOL.

I don't think a lot of people believe me when I tell them that I have chickens that lay greenish colored eggs.

????

so i am guessing no one here has this chicken that lays purple eggs?

or are they being secretive and failed kindergarden's first lesson: sharing.

I do not believe chickens have the mechanism that would produce a purple egg. I would be very skeptical of the information. They just do not have the ability to produce a purple pigment. A bird could lay an egg that had a mixture of protoporphyrin-IX (brown pigment) and blood; this would cause a purple egg, but once the blood released its oxygen to the air and the proteins in the blood were oxidized the purple egg would turn brown.

Thanks Mahonri - I do have some interesting colors. Here's some that people describe as purple or really pink - plus some gray ones and some olive eggs. All the birds that laid these have the same two parents - an EE mom and a BCM dad.
