Purple light OK?

Greetings, Wifey asked me to post asking: Is a purple light OK to heat the hen house? [purple designed to mimic moon light for reptiles]
We have a sick girl and don't want to go out in this weather for a bulb.

Sure??? White, Red, Purple, Black..... as long as it put out heat.

Are you trying to calm the "sick girl" down? I've personally never noticed the difference between colors.

Thanks, She, wifey, decided there is enough heat in there until we can get to the store for a larger heat lamp.

In summary:

red/orange for laying and fertility
bright white for eating (meat birds only, it will cause layers to lay on the floor)
blue/green for broiler growth
