Put eggs in the bator 9-9-12 anyone want to hatch along????? :0)

Okay, so here is the verdict on my hatch. It looks like 4 out of the 5 that I put into lockdown passed right before lockdown. No wiggles or anything from those guys. I did put a small air opening in the one just in case but, when I did it was obviously the baby had passed and had probably been a day or two.

thats why I am guessing right before lockdown because, it had been growing before that.

Egg number 5 I did get wiggles and rocks. After a little while of no zipping I made it an air hole because after the history I have had with these eggs I figured it might be in distress. When I did just as I had expected no air sac and the baby was upside down. So where I should see a beak I am seeing feet. I just put it back and gave it more time to absorb the yolk sac. I didn't figure it was gonna make it, that was Wednesday night and now it is Friday and it is still alive. I am crossing my fingers but, it doesn't seem that active so I don't expect the best.

I am gonna help it out just in case there is any chance but, now I have to figure out how to do an assisted hatch on a baby that is in the egg upside down. I am sure I shouldn't zip from where I put the breathing hole just in case his yolk sac is not absorbed. I am wondering if I should do a second hole in the small end of the egg and go from there. Has anyone done this before and can give me some advice?

So of all my eggs that almost made it to hatch no one had a air sac. so I have done a little research and sounds like they were probably shaken up and turned into scrambled eggs in the mailing process. I probably shouldn't order from her anymore just for this reason. Makes me sad cause, my son and I really wanted some of her babies.

On a lighter note, here is some pics of my Imported Chocolate Orpington roo.

I know he's a rooster, but all I see when I look at his picture is a cuddly little Peruvian guinea pig with beautiful hair and a rooster head.

He is gorgeous!

sorry to hear about your hatch Dandy!

I've had hatches like that before where non hatch. The PO here is horrible. I think when I start selling eggs I'm gonna give the option if sellers want me to ship UPS or FedEx. I've never had eggs shipped that way, but I've had lots of bad shipments from USPS.

Your chocolate orphs are GORGEOUS!!! I LOVE how POOFY they are!! I had a male and female black australorp and I love how big and poofy they are! Something the otherday got my roo tho. I was so sad

. He did his job tho. Something apparently was getting his girl and he saved her. What a brave gentleman!

Sorry about your hatch, dandy... I also had 14 shipped eggs and last night threw all the rest out because they were not growing.... 1 day before lockdown.... no more shipped eggs for me... I would make a small hole in the end where the chicks head is, make sure you use warm, streile water to moisten the mmebrane and go slow, do a little shell, put the egg back, crank up the humidity and let the egg rest,,, take your time,, if the chick can breath and rest, let it try to work its way out, help it slowly... let the egg sac get absorbed and if the chick can use its legs too kick out a little it will help it not have leg problems... I helped my first time too fast and the chick just wasnt ready yet and only lived a day....last one i helped took all day and i had almost given up but let it lay in the half shell for a long time and only had a little bit of yolk come with her...Good luck

That is the most beautiful rooster! He looks like melting chocolate....yum!

So sorry about your hatch... this all gets so emotional. I with I had joined this thread early on and hatched along, but I'm going to keep checking in now. I have eggs in lockdown now (2 pipped this morning, out of 29 that I believe are viable, or at least developed. There WERE 52, so a bunch didn't make it). I also ha 9 under a broodie, and 4 of those hatched out over the past two days. I pulled the other eggs save 1, but I'll probably grab that out today as I don't think it's going to make it.

I really need to work today, but I just want to keep looking at my eggs. I'm thinking if I put the 'bator downstairs I could get all my exercise running up and down to check on it ever 15 minutes or so...

Here's a question--how do you keep yourself from picking the eggs open?! On of mine that pipped isn't showing space yet, it's just a little broken flap. Should I move that little piece so it can breath better? It's a mottled bantam cochin., I had 7 of those eggs, and only 2 developed. I'm really hoping they turn out to be Adam and Eve...

If you set eggs on 9-9-12 they shouldn't hatch until this Sunday. Why are you helping now?

Holly freaking crud did I count wrong?????????? I guess I won't be helping anymore for now. Ugggh, I could just kick myself.

OMGosh, I am soooooo glad you caught my mistake. I was two seconds from trying to help some more and chunking the rest of the eggs. Well I hiked up the humidity and will leave well enough alone. I know none of the others of air sacs they were messed up in the mail but, who knows maybe some of the others will pull through. I can't tell if there is live babies in there or not because, the eggs are dark and I can't tell for sure if there is movement. I tried to candle one of the eggs right after you said something and looks like there might possibly be movement Uggh, I could just kick myself.

Honestly, if it was me and it has been like that more then a few hours I would pick off the flap and then put it back and leave it alone. I mean that is just me because, I have had some I have just left alone and then they suffocated because, of not having enough air.

Thank everyone he is beautiful and he does look like chocolate. :0) I can't wait until we can hatch out some chocolate babies.

I have to say again thank you Aoxa for pointing out my mistake before I made a really bad mistake.

Little one that I made the blunder with and opened a air hole way to early seems to be doing great so far. It is wiggly away and chipping. Realizing I made the counting mistakes means that there is a possibility that the 3 eggs that I thought were goners because, they hadn't moved might still have a chance. That would be so great if this little one has a sibling, I really don't want it to be all alone. So we are actually on day 19 and looking for wigglers.

I know it is hard to quit peeking and looking for wigglers.
