And I have been thinking about putting some cages on an inside wall of the duck coop for brooders. I hatch ducklings and chicks in an incubator and then I sale them. Since I am going to sale them, is it a problem if I have them in with my flock? Thank you

I can't imagine why there would be a problem. I thought of doing that too, as long as you have power for keeping the little ducklings warm.

I don’t have power out there, when I had the ducklings in the basement last year I only used feather dusters and hot water bottles and that seemed to work ok.

I have a lamp that is chained where no bird can reach, but chicks are brooding in my coop. I put them in an area where it is away from the roosts. The chicks are over one month old when they went out. It is starting to warm up outside. The water doesn't freeze, and with the LIGHT they can see to eat.

Also, what do y’all use as the floor of a brooder? The ducklings like to play in the water so much and last year I had to clean out the cage between 3-6 times a day because they kept getting bedding wet and I didn’t want them to get cold. I’m trying to figure out a better system for this year.

No power in the coop

My brooder inside my home I used puppy pee pads what you need is to make waterers they can't splash all over something like this and if your going to have many ducklings then you'll need more than one. I used old window screens to cover the top. That is going to be your biggest problem if you have your brooder inside your coop and it's mounted on the wall. Is making sure water doesn't get splashed out onto the bedding below.

How long will the hot water bottles stay warm? Just never have used them before.

I think between 2-5 hours, for the 1/2 gallon juice bottles. You want to make sure that you put a small towel or cloth around the bottles so that the birds don’t get burned though.
