LOL! What's worse is I do that aloud all the time. I'll know exactly what I meant to say, but the word comes out of my mouth is something totally different

And yeah -- mine only go pretend broody every once in a while and even so can have a heck of an attitude! For the whole 45 minutes that they decide to stay on the nest...

LOL!!!! I do that word thing all the time too. Drives me crazy. I think its an age thing, I am 38 now and the older I get the more I do it. He he!!! The bad thing is most of the time I don't even notice I do it and my kids and husband laugh at me. I remember my mom use to do it all the time and I used to laugh at her and now its me doing it.

Completely unrelated aside -- we've got a thunderstorm going here. And rain, FINALLY!!! I can practically hear my garden sighing in relief!
Thats sound great. I wish that was our situation but, deer came and wiped out almost our whole garden. We are just learning and that was a hard lesson. We definitely have to figure out how to keep the deer out.

I sure hope so, 'cause I just added a NH cockerel and two silver-laced wyandotte hens to my Meyer hatchery order! (I'm only 20 miles from them; picking up on Mon 20th -- eggs here are due to hatch the 18th). So now that makes:

8 mutts in incubator, all still looking good!
2 australorps, 2 SLW, 2 Columbian wyandotte, 1 speckled sussex and one NH roo on order total 8
1 white rock, 3 barred rocks, 2 partridge rocks, 2 NH hens, 1 cuckoo marans roo in coop total 9
______
25 chickens

ACK!!! What am I doing with 25 chickens???! I only eat three eggs a day.

The dreaded chicken math strike again!
It will be very pretty when you look out and see them free ranging.

That must be why I'm a writer... hee! They are absolutely beautiful, though. While I was poking around the Meyer hatchery listings I looked for some, but they don't seem to carry them. Thank heavens! Bad enough they suddenly had Silver-laced wyandottes available -- which meant, of course, that I had to get two

(Not that I would expect hatchery birds to look anything like the lovelies you've got eggs from! One of these years I'd like to upgrade the quality of my stock -- not that the MH stock is bad; in fact, all my current birds came from there and they're pretty sturdy.)

NO! No, darn it! No more chickens! Not at least till I figure out what to do with the 25 I suddenly have pending

What is the difference in price buying from a hatchery and buying from a breeder. Well let me put it this way how much is a dozen fertile eggs plus shipping price from Meyer? Since you seem to want some eggs from a breeder I was just wondering if there is a big difference in price.

Deer aren't much of a problem right where I am, although a few miles further out they are. Here my main problem was... the chickens! Had to build them a run for growing season after they decimated my peppers. Next year, rather than fencing the chickens, I might fence the garden. They're all clipped and none of them seem very intent on trying to fly unless something (like me) is spooking them!
