Whee!!! I was supposed to go into lockdown Wednesday night (Thurs, Fri, then Saturday should be hatch day) but honestly my eggs are looking very well developed and I think I may opt for Tuesday night/Wed morning instead. Eek!!!! Suddenly that seems so soon, especially when I'm thinking about where on earth to put them all!

Click no 2 now born, shes walking round with half a shell getting dragged along. Can I cut it off or something? She was born oner 5 hours ago?

Oh Im not using a incubator I have used one three first time I hatched 2 chicks 2nd I hatched 1 and third time I hatched a duck but It wasnt strong anough so it died sadly. I thought that what was lockdown I just thought there wasnt a name for it LoL My broody is hatching the eggs and this is my first broody!!!!!!!!!!

I know, Chicken Tamer, I'm just answering the question! I'm also jealous -- I WANT A BROODY!!!!!

Ah well -- that's why I ordered more breeds! Speaking of breeds -- do you have any other pictures of your girl that really show her comb? We're still trying to figure her parentage out!

Congratulations, jennibos!!! I'm not an expert, in fact, this is my first time incubating eggs. First question, though -- do you have any more eggs waiting to hatch, or are they all hatched already?

It'd be worth asking more experienced people out in the forum (maybe start a new thread) but for what it's worth, I'd say if you have any eggs pipped or hatching not to open the incubator. Your chick made it out okay; if it has to drag the eggshell around a little while longer, well, it probably won't kill it (so to speak!) I wouldn't want to risk opening the 'bator while you have shells either pipped or cracking, or chicks that are still damp from the hatch. If you currently *don't* have any eggs in the midst of hatching or wet chicks, then you could try getting a spray bottle with some water in it (make sure it's on 'mist' not 'spray'!), spray a little water under the curve of the shell where it's stuck to the chick to moisten the dried goop holding it to her back up, and very gently see if you can ease it off her. If not, wait a few hours -- or even better, till the hatch is over -- and repeat the process.

I lockdown on Monday too, though with the Seramas I am likely to get an early hatch...last time they hatched at 19 days rather than 21. I went to put in water and candle in preparation for lockdown then, and I had internal pips (on the 18th day). Sooooooo we'll see what happens this time around. I have ended up with 3 which are still good. One of the 4 has quit I am almost 100% sure. But that's ok...I'll have more eggs sent out to me on the 20th :)
