Had it already pipped?I came home for lunch and my little tiny one was still at the point it was at last night...I have peeled the top of the egg off and opened the membrane...he/she is inside the bottom half of the shell but head is out...I am going to leave it to kick the bottom half off itself, since I don't want to risk the yolk not being absorbed and all. I got no blood when I opened the top so that is a good sign. Baby is COAL black... I mean black black... pictures later
pretty
Congrats on your new baby!!!!!!!I'm a sucker.....I bought a replacement. Local lady had a group of silkie chicks that are about a week old. I brought home the smallest one. I needed a chick TODAY.![]()
my husband is annoyed.. oh well.
Woot Woot!!!! baby is coming!!!LoL Right after I said that I went out side to check on the eggs and I saw the mama off so I was wondering why she was off because she was off earlier today so I went in the coop and I lisned and I heard something moving in the nest and then I saw a tiny little crack in a silkie egg!!! Idk if I have my times off because I pretty much just guessed when she started sitting, or one silkie egg is hatching early!!!!
Awwwwe, what a sweet pic.
First chick in our brooder. Silkie chick from a local lady. Its a week old and ADORABLE. What a ham too. It loves being held and hanging around on our shoulders. Follows me around the house already.
A VERY happy preschooler! She was expecting a chick when she got home from school and she got one. I'm actually really glad we ended up starting out with a week old chick because there was some serious handling issues at first. I think we have it under control now and the poor chick survived without anything getting broke, squished or stepped on.
The homemade hatcher and these are due to hatch Friday. We think the larger is a Silver Laced Wyandotte and the smaller egg is a Polish, I can't be sure because these came from an "assortment" of any breed from My Pet Chicken. They are marked SLW and PO. Went into lockdown this morning.
In the Little Giant Still Air we have 6 mutts going into lockdown as soon as these hatch, and 7 Barred Rocks/7 Delawares that are on day 7 today. I've been afraid to candle until going into lockdown because I think I lost one of my Cochins due to too much handling. I'm not going to touch anything else if I can help it.
