Putting eggs in the bator on July 25, does anyone wanna hatch along???

Okay my little leg problem guy now has tape being used as a hobble, he/she can now sit up straight but of course is having trouble with walking but that's fine I'll check him in a couple days to see if it's helped, new news on the egg front. I did an assist hatch on my quail egg that got a crack in it just a couple days into incubation, he's doing good so far but a couple of his toes are curled, hopefully he can work it out still have four unhatched eggs one is two days late and three one day late
Wow, I can't believe you had an egg with a crack make it to hatch. That is awesome. To cute about the toe maybe, you can name it Curly. LOL!!!

Unfortunately, I have had a few babies with bad legs. I have never been able to fix a leg. I kind question the fact that you can. I think some people think they are fixing a baby cause some of them are born with their legs kind of bent from being in eggs but, the legs sometimes just straighten on their own. I understand the need to want to fix it, well because been there done that. Since you want to try to fix it I would look up chick chair. If I can find it I will post it on here. I would follow their instructions and put a splint on it and put it in a chick chair. The three I tried to fix eventually died, I kind of think being separated from the others gets their spirits down and they end up starving to death because, as much as you hand feed them I think they just don't get enough. I also put it so they could eat on their own but, I think when they can't get around and interact with the other chicks they kind of give up. Now I did have one that after trying to put its slip its tendon back in with no luck that I just left alone. I let it live and hang out with the other chicks and it did fine. Of course it still has a wonky leg but, is alive and happy.

If I were you this is what I would do. I would put the little guy in a splint and keep it on for two day. Keep an eye on it to make sure its not to tight. I wouldn't take it off at all for two days. I would also put it in a chick chair for those two days to keep weight off the bad leg. Hand feed it and all that stuff maybe some sugar water for strength. I might also give it some vitamins because, leg problems are sometimes caused from a deficiency. After two days if the splint and chair hasn't worked I would take it out and just let it be. As long as it can hop its way to food and water I would put it back with the other babies. As I said I had that one that I put back with the others and it was perfectly happy as long as it was with the others and it lived. It would hop around to the food and water and to be with the others and once it got where it was going would sit down. I don't think it even knew it was different and it was happy. I will see if I can find the post about the splint and chick chair for you.

Good luck.

I would love to see the chick chair.I ahyve heatrd it didnt find it .
I devised another set of splints on him tonigt. Poor guy every night i put another thing on.He cringes when i come in.I feel so bad.
.This time its a real splint a popcycle stick wrapped in quilt batting and cotton jersey one on either side of his leg. He got his leg wet and i looked it doesnt look like its in that hip joint . but it turns in at the knee? and also the foot does some I Had the last one on 2 days too. But Then i took it off it was a little better then slipped back into being terrible and he just flops around.... this time who knows. He doesnt seem to eat when he cant stand up and flops i have to feed him about every hour or so .That has to stop i cant leave the house but for short trips.
I have put sugar in his food and poly visol too. H is small you are right.
I had another from the hatch before he was hand fed too but his leg got ok...it wasnt this bad at all.He acts normal now walks normal eats and is part of the gang now but still really small wonder if he will grow bigger thoughHe is tiny not as big as my 4 day olds.!
Hes 2 weeks old. now and seems healthy now
Both were assists.
This guy i only put in a second or 2 with the others he looked scared and they came over ready to peck him so i took him back out. He has the mirror friend!
Hmmm, they might be hard to hatch out. The ones I am trying to hatch out are a Birchen Maran tolbunt cross. All I know is I put five of them in and not a single one hatched. I put other breeds in and had no problem. I think a few weren't fertile and one probably quit growing when I had my humidity drop and the last guy that made it to the end didn't make it through hatch. I did an egg topsy and it was just to big for the egg, there was no air sac because, the baby took up all the room. Well I am gonna try one more time and if I don't get any I guess I will give up unless I find another breeder with them. We will see.

Were the Maran /Tolbunts shipped?

Curly is cute just might do that lol. Yes I cracked the egg on the second day while writing dates on it. At first I wasn't sure what to do do I put damp tissue paper on it (it had a chip going inward) I looked up about saving eggs with cracks and came across using Elmer glue. So I brushed the glue over the tissue, taking care not to cover the whole egg leaving the air sac area uncovered. The only region I went ahead with the assist hatch is because I thought the chick was a quitter. I really dissent expect to find it alive. I'm thinking now it was just unquote to get through the glue and tissue.

That was smart i think!! tissue... that way at least the elmers couldnt get in
Dont worry .I have a terrible time typing. I hit wrong keys ALL THE TIME and have a bad eye from a torn retina so sometimes dont catch my mistakes ...well...a LOT!!HAHA if i make the print big then i cant fit it all on the page. Oh well.
Anyway

Wow, thats sounds cool wish I had known to do that with my egg that had a chip maybe, the outcome would have been different.

I will have to try that next time. Someone mentioned gluing it but, I was scared it would get into the egg.
