Pyxis' Emu Chat Thread

Some people say you can, others say you can't. By the time they're old enough to check with a stethoscope you can check with other methods too :)

I kinda think their orange eyes are pretty:

Question, aren't baby emus just referred to as 'chicks'?
Soo adorable..both pics! :love
Cooling, Balance during running, and Courtship displays. :D
Interesting...they are really fascinating! :D
Okay, week one check-in!

Egg 22 is down to 557.3 grams from 569 grams. Target weight loss for the week was 12.2 grams, and total loss was 12 grams!

Egg A is down to 552 grams from 570 grams. Target weight loss for the week was 12.3 grams, and total loss was 18 grams. A little concerning.

Egg B is down to 535.6 grams from 548 grams. Target weight loss was 11.6 grams, and total weight loss was 13 grams. A little too much.

Hopefully next week weight loss looks better on A and B.
Finally got caught up.. hope to stay that way..:lau
This is so interesting and I can't wait till they hatch...:fl:fl:fl
Best of luck and good vibes coming your way!:hugs:jumpy

The seller we purchased our eggs from this year included a small self published booklet, and multiple contacts to reach them incase we had questions. It was reassuring and comforting that they cared after the sale.

How did your hatch go? (Sorry if you already said and I missed it)

An experience woman on here named Shelby, told me you can cover some of the egg with tape if they are loosing too much weight. This slows down the moisture loss thru the eggs pores. Then that way your not playing with your humidity levels and making other eggs that are doing well, go off kilter.

Currently In the incubator at day 46. Been having good wiggling and shaking reaction from whistles and even just speaking to them. That I hadnt ever read anywhere. Talk to them and they wiggle, I suppose sound is sound.
Had a scare last night, bad storms knocked the power out in a large area around us last night while we were gone. When I got home the air temp in the closed and unopened bator was 60 but, of course that wasnt egg temp. We insulated it, waited it out. After about 3 hrs the power came back on. Really they should have surrived that. Power was probably only off an hour or so before covering it up. shouldnt have been a problem. But, we shall see

I looked at that other thread. Wasn't this her first emu hatch? She's already doing training videos and such after one hatch??

I also noticed the tape, and while it makes sense, the tape kinda scares me, but I guess the right kind of tape would be worth trying.

Yes but there is another girl on the thread, not the original poster, who has the experience.

The one posting all the videos?
I could be wrong, I thought in one video she says "my first baby emu hatched". Granted, I didn't check the date on the video or any background. I guess I just got the impression that she was just starting out too. My bad.

Oh she meant her first baby hatched out of the seven eggs she set.
