And now that you're dry and clean, go find the crazy lady who wanted a ride. I've known a lot of folks who lost their driving privileges with age. It's a demoralizing loss of independence. It was probably harder for her to ask than we imagine. I have friends here on BYC who can no longer drive and their stories are kind of heart wrenching.

Actually she looked like she was younger than my mom, putting her somewhere in her mid-forties, probably. But there could be other reasons she can't drive, I suppose.

However in that case it's probably best not to choose to live in a place that's five miles from the nearest store.

DUI is my first thought.....or just not the funds to maintain and/or insure a vehicle....or could be medical.
My mom lost the ability to drive right after I was born(labor induced stroke), it stunk for her to have to rely on others.

I have a cousin who can't drive - no car. Usually she has someone who can drive her around, but she's asked me before when her usual ride isn't available and I help her out :)

I think it wouldn't have been so weird if, like, I knew this woman at all or she bothered to introduce herself before asking.

'she emerged from the woods and simply followed me right back into the pen.'

In the big picture, it's useful to have your birds acculturated to a sound associated with food. For mine, it's me tapping my knuckle on the bottom of the old tin plate they get wheat on.

Your adventure this time was easy. The hard ones are if the birds are panicked, and there is noise/stupid people. You can get them out of somewhere with the plate-tapping.
