Pyxis' Emu Chat Thread

It's been awhile since I've done an emu update! Hoping to snap some new pictures tomorrow.

They're growing like weeds. Ciara still has her baby stripes, but they're starting to go. Desi is pretty much totally dark now.

Meanwhile, I have yet to paint the emu barn because I am a procrastinator  And we've been getting so much rain it's just not conducive to painting. Hopefully next weekend will be nicer.

So this is not emu related but I have to share.

Everyone knows Tractor Supply is notorious for mislabeling breeds. Last night I popped in on my way home from work to pick up some feed and glanced into the chick bins. Something caught my eye.

So I bought these two "leghorns":

This has to be the worst case of Tractor Supply mislabeling something that I have ever seen. Not only did the get the breed wrong, they didn't even get the species right.

I told them after I bought them that they may want to stop telling people these are leghorns since, you know, they're not even chickens.

Oh, I also bought four dominiques to round out the six bird minimum purchase. Who upon further inspection have single combs. So they're not dominiques. Oh Tractor Supply.

OyVey!!
What did they say?

I can almost see posts from confused new members joining to find out why their TSC leghorns are getting so big!

What did they say?

When I first asked the employee to buy them, I told her I was interested in some specific birds in the bin. She immediately said "The ones with orange heads?"

I thought she knew they were mislabeled turkeys so I said, "Yes, you know they're turkeys, right?"

But then her immediate response was "Oh my God" and she told me she wasn't in when they came in so she didn't know. She then went off to get someone else to try to confirm or something, and he came out and said they would be selling them at the leghorn price since they had nothing saying for sure they were turkeys. So I said okay and bought them.

I heard her telling the next customer that came up that they thought they might be turkeys, so at least she was giving people a heads up about it after. No telling how many they sold to people as leghorns though.
