Quail are pipping... *Edit got some white chicks hatched....*

Well Bill..... I set all the eggs that were shipped to me, so I think that is 59. 15 of the eggs you sent are hatched. one of them has crooked toes and doesn't do much, so I left him in the incubator. What should I do will he live?

They are so smart! my peachicks would not eat I had to teach them how to. I put these little guys in the brooder and they went crazy for the food.

I had the same with my pea chicks, so I put a couple of small bantam chicks in with them and they learned to eat and drink from the chicks very fast. This was the first time I did this but will do that from now on. After they were eating well I pulled the chicks out.

If its just his toes curled, they should come out of it after a while. He spent too much time in the shell... Just guess'n, he pip then just set there for a long time? If he don't come out of it in a day or so, I'd cull him... Hope they do well for you. Bill

Ditto, just because the little booger comes out and can stand "with curled toes", give that chick a huge benefit of the doubt. I've had'em lookin' doubtful going from the bator to the brooder one night, and get up the next morning having a hard time figuring out which one had the problem.

I had a gambel hatch this way one time. We put little pieces of tape on both the top and bottom of his feet with the toes in the normal position keeping the back toe free and the next morning he was walking completely normal. Hope this helps.

Hows that hatch go'in Christian? You should'a had a honk'n truck load hatch by now.... Some of those eggs traveled a awful long ways in hellish heat thou. We maybe testing the limits of just how hot and how far you can successfully ship eggs.... Bill

So far I have 16 babies one looked awfully sick and wouldn't do anything now I can't tell which one it is. The quail chicklet with the crooked toes healed cuz I can't tell which one he was either

So that makes me really happy. There is still one more eggs pipped but I think it is dead. It has been in its shell for 2 days. I would put water on the pipped hole so the membrane wouldn't dry out, but I dont think it is worth it anymore.

That is a great hatch rate. Plus I still have the eggs from TD cooking so I am going to have more then what I thought. Thanks so much Bill.

I think your likely right about the early pipper, I'd guess he's gone too. I didnt realize I sent mine that much earlier than TD. Sorry bout that man. Strung out your hatch did'nt we... Sounds like you'll end up with a nice hatch thou. TD's eggs came a long ways in alot of hot. Curious to see how they made it... Bill
