I recently got 3 white coturnix quail. I put them all in there cage and noticed that one of them wasn't running around like the rest, he was just sitting there and wasn't moving a whole lot. I picked him up and noticed that he had some of those little poop balls stuck to the tips of his toes. None of the other ones had this, but i did see this on some of my baby turkeys a while back, but i guess on the turkeys the poo hadn't hardend to the extent that the quails did, becuz i could just peel the poop off the turkeys, but when i tried this with the quail it ripped off the poop but also a little bit of skin at the tip of the toe! And it seemed to be bleeding alot. So i went into the house and grabed some flour to help clot the blood. I then left him alone for a few hours, and when i came back there was quite a bit of blood in his bedding and the cut was still bleeding! So I floured him again, but by that time he couldn't even hold his head up:( He died shortly after that.. I didn't know just a little cut could bleed a quail to death. I guess you can never be to careful.

I'm sorry to hear that. I always moisten it first so that it comes off easy.

Im sorry for your loss. It sounds like he was weak to begin with.

Sometimes, they just wont make it through. I spent forever nursing a baby brahma chick to health after her crop got impacted - only to have her attacked by older hens later, and then to die the next day.

I even thought that maybe i should put his feet in warm water and shrub it off, but decided just to try and pull it off:( I'll do the warm water meathod next time

Quail feet bleeding can and usually is fatal
When they either cut toes or whatever may cause the bleeding the others will pick it to death
Be very careful with bleeders its always best to seperate the bird from any others
There is a product called new skin if the bird is not too damaged sometimes it will stop bleeding and act as a kinda bandaid
