Quail Class

So if the 2 eggs pipped yesterday night and the babies still arent out, should I assist tonight or leave them? Every time I assist I regret it but I'm getting desperate for a friend for this little guy.View attachment 2408870
Nature walk!!!
Give them at least 24 hours from pip to zip. If they're still struggling then, you might think about assisting.

24 hours will be tonight so I'll see how they are then! I hate assisting because the chicks I assist are always too weak to survive more than a few days and I feel horrible for them :hit. Let's hope these guys pip again so that I don't have to help!

That is often the case, which is why many people don't assist. I usually will, but with full knowledge that I might have to cull that chick.

I assisted and thought it was a failure because one of the chicks couldn't walk or hold his neck up, but I made a wheelchair type thing that hangs from the top of the incubator to solve it and, while he was escaping, he fixed it himself :yesss:! Not my original plan but I am up for anything that works! I was very scared that I was going to have to cull in the morning, but I wasn't going to give up so soon.

The 2 assisted ones are having a great time with the eldest one (who is very scared of them :lau, I'm sure he'll get over it.) The little two are very cute! I think they're going to be silver! I'll see if I can get a picture when they're not running to follow me, haha.

Edit: Here they are!!!

Hi friends!!
Getting some new girls today, should I introduce them slowly? I do not have another pen for them if so. I am getting a sparkly Italian, not sure which other kind ( I made a request for at least one sparkly Italian, but he is picking the others! but how should I introduce them? can I just put them in there and say " adios quails! " or sit and watch for fights?

Let them see but not touch for a few hours/days (if anyone suggests a real time frame I want to know too) then let them free but watch them. Any fights/blood, they all go back to seeing but not touching a little longer. That is how I always introduce new ones.

I normally mist everyone with half vinegar half water. Then I mist the whole pen, especially high traffic areas and hides. I put the new ones in and watch for aggression. Aggressors get a squirt of vinegar water, and I find they need very few corrections. I watch for a half hour or so, then I go back out once an hour to see if anyone needs reminding.

Why does vinegar help? I will have to try this!
