Okay, I'll definitely put the sand in another box and cut a hole in it so they have access to it almost all day.
Yes, that's what I was thinking at first, but one of them lays eggs around 8 PM and the other one about an hour later or at the same time, so there is no egg when she does that.![]()

You might create a little nest for them to lay in, a low basket with some grass hay, wood shavings or even some shredded paper. You can coax them with one of their eggs in the nest.

But I might try that. A canary nest is what I got from my mother for christmas, she thought it will be good for my new quails. They don't fit in it of course.

Had I left the eggs in the nest too long, they probably would have abandon the thing and built another somewhere else.
