Okay, I'll definitely put the sand in another box and cut a hole in it so they have access to it almost all day.

Yes, that's what I was thinking at first, but one of them lays eggs around 8 PM and the other one about an hour later or at the same time, so there is no egg when she does that. :D

Perfect! I think she will be just fine. She may just need a boost and the cider will help pump up her immune system as she grows.

You might create a little nest for them to lay in, a low basket with some grass hay, wood shavings or even some shredded paper. You can coax them with one of their eggs in the nest. :)

That's a nice idea. They always stand up and eggs just pop out of them  But I might try that. A canary nest is what I got from my mother for christmas, she thought it will be good for my new quails. They don't fit in it of course.

They will love a nest! Coturnix have sort of forgotten how to "place house" and build nests, especially if they don't have access to nesting materials. Females love communal nests, I once had a nest of 30 quail eggs in one nest!

That's impressive! I'm afraid it'll never happen with my "flock".

I had outdoor aviaries. The aviary with the communal nest had somewhere around 15 hens in it. I let the nest build up with eggs and cleaned them out every few days. :p Had I left the eggs in the nest too long, they probably would have abandon the thing and built another somewhere else. :lau

Wow, imagine sitting on a bunch of eggs and having to lay another one.

I finally see some improvement, she is drinking less than usual so I guess she's going to be fine after the next few days. I tried making the nest as well, but there was one big mistake. I put wood shavings in it and they just pecked half of it out, they must have thought it was too much. Also, they hid the egg I put in the nest under the wood shavings. How caring.

That is great news, glad she is doing better!! :)

Play around with the nest and materials, eventually you will find something they like.

If they only have access to sand once a day, she may appear to be eating a lot of it. :D You might try your suggestion and see if that helps.

The scratching thing sounds like egg laying broody stuff, as if she is preparing to create a nest.
I tried this so now they have a little bathroom :) But she is still eating a lot of sand, will it get better as she gets used to bathing or should I do something?
