Quail dying?

Lol this is a chicken forum, so most people don’t know much about quail.

Lots of us here know about quail and/or have both quail and chickens. She just posted this in the wrong section to get specific information. For future quail questions, there is a quail subforum where you will get better answers. I only saw this thread because it was on the front page.

If the temp is decent and they aren't huddled under it or trying to get away from the heat, then go down the list of other things that may be off. Do they have proper water, food (such as high protein game bird feed that has been blended to be small enough for them to eat,) no obstacles in the brooder to get hurt on, etc.

What are you feeding them? I ask because I've heard of people losing chicks due to not enough protein in their diets. Bobwhite should have around 24% protein starter for optimal growth. If the heat's alright, that could be something to look at.

That should be plenty. Hmm. Heat would be my next guess, but you've already got peoples' thoughts on that. :idunnoReposting in the quail forum might get you more answers. I hope you can figure out what's causing it.

For anyone who is hhaving the same problem I saw another thread where someone switched then to medicated feed and they quit dying so I am going to try this and hope for the best.

Medicated feed is fine for young quail. Once they hit egg laying age, if you are going to keep them for egg production then it's best to not have the medicated feed. The medication is just to help them not get sick as chicks. Mine are all 1+ year old and just egg layers/pets, so I have them on Flock Raiser since it has enough protein for them, plus oyster shell on the side if they want it.
