Quail Feed

Hello. I'm going to start raising quails for meat sometime soon. Was interested to find out what feed it best to feed them when they're newly hatched right up to butchering. Would a standard turkey growers work?

I used the 24% protein crumble, ground into dust with meal worms powdered in the mix to bump them up to around 30% until 5 weeks, then I went to the 16% layer feed. Mine dressed out around 4.5 oz each after being skinned and plucked

Yes A turkey starter is what most people use from hatch until 8-10 weeks for meat birds....layers/breeders can be switched to a layer feed at 6-8 weeks

I use purina 30% turkey/gamebird starter mixed with unmedicated 20%. I’ve also used 27% turkey starter. Whichever I have, I don’t change it for the meat birds from birth to butcher.

Umm... Not entirely sure. I made mine in small amounts cause I only had 12 chicks. I would say about a cup of worms to a quart of feed.

I mostly guesstimated, but never had any problems

So are you saying you use 27% starter on its own or with the unmedicated stuff?
Could I use it on its own? Also. What about using a finisher?

I use the 27% on its own. Just for a while it was hard to find locally and I started mixing my own.

No finisher or grower here. I process between 5-7 weeks (depending on my schedule), so it’s just easiest to keep them at high protein the whole time. They also get to scrounge for seeds in their dirt box and have greens too sometimes.
