We have 2 quail that were raised w/ our chickens, and so far they're just staying with us near the house (they're not in a pen). Is that normal? I thought they would leave for the "wild". Maybe they will when they're older (they're around 4 months old now), but it's sure cute seeing them run around w/ our chickens, etc.

A friend of mine had some coturnix in a coop with some young chickens, when she'd let the chickens out the quail would go with. They'd hang out outside all day, then when dusk came they'd go back into the coop, just like her chickens. So it's not completely unheard of.

Anything is possable, but do you really send your quail out to free range with your chickens and expect them to come home?
I'm sure some people keep 6 chickens, 8 quail, 4 rats, 1 rattlesnake, 12 blackwidow spiders, and an ally cat in the same cage and...(Have no problems).
I just don't push that envelope.
