Quail Hatch - Egg Carton Vs Reg method - Amazing results - UPDATE

woah that theory makes all the sense in the world to me!!!! Awesome observation!!!

That's what I had thought with my chicks...it just seems that it takes them way less time to zip than when they're laying on their sides.

We are now up to 14 hatches on the right, no egg carton side. A few more have pipped.

Egg Carton - Left Side - 22 of 25
Non Egg Caron - Right Side - 14 of 25

NOTE: I used the egg carton for the entire incubation period, not just the last
few days. My bator's turner turns the entire bator, not just a tray.

I just went to check on the little guys and gals and found the brooder light
had burned out. All our windows were open so it's around 65 degrees. The
poor little things were in a corner shaking and their body temps were already
down in the low 80's. Whew... Anyone ever ship quail chicks? I can't imagine them
lasting like a chicken would.

OH NO!!!! Good thing you caught it and hopefully it was in time!!!

Glad you did this experiment. I will do the same with SamG's eggs on day 14!!!

Congrats on a terrific hatch so far and hope the babies are ok.

Really? Most hatcheries I look at require you to order AT LEAST 100.

Since seeing the results i have the following hypothesies:

1-Being held upright assists the bird in hatching, confirmed by the
many people who use the methid for hatching.

2-Since I used the carton for the entire incubation period I suspect
the contact of the cardboard with the egg helped regulate temp
and humidity better.

3-The eggs being in the upwards position developed better.

It's hard to draw any conclusion off just one hatch.
