Quail Hatch - Egg Carton Vs Reg method - Amazing results - UPDATE

I just hatched some quail out for a friend and hatched 70 out of 79 i forgot them in the turner so i was afraid to move them so shut the turner off and you talk about pop corn they exploded they were everywhere in the bator

im pretty sure by popcorn they're meaign popping out of the eggs fast one by one....LOL i could be wrong but im pretty sure...

however chicks scattering is cute...those lil drama queens!

I have an LG still air and these are the only eggs I've ever hatched (besides chicken and button quail) where I had a hard time keeping the humidity stable. These are running either too low or too high. Temps are consistent at 102 (with my accurite digital that I found to be right at 102 for the other eggs).

Humidity keeps dropping in the 30's and as low as 28%. I added more water than usual (usually only fill the center well to keep it consistent) and it hit 50%. Took one red plug out, got it stable at 40%. Put the plug back in and it dropped back into the 30's again. I don't get it.

I am using the turner that I use for the BQ eggs. Used the egg cartons to hatch my last batch of chickens and had 28 out of 35 hatch clean and healthy.

Yes, kept the tray that Sam sent so I will use that. The humidity just baffles me.

Chicken eggs seem to start hatching at day 20 and go to day 22.

These quail all hatched at the same time sorta like popcorn popping.

I have never got my LG bators to 65% humidity without putting napkins in the bottom
partly in the wells so they wick away the water and bump up humidity. Mine are
forced air (have the fan kit) and that seems to help too.

28 of 35 eggs is a good hatch using and LG in my book.

I missed the popcorn affect today. For me it was my cellphone ringing every 5 minutes.

That is weird about the humidity going down in your LG when you put the red plug in mine goes up wheni do....

I keep humidity in by opening the red plug (to lower temp and or humidity) andi keep it stable by either keeping teh plug in if it's too cool in the room, ori take it out and cover the hole with a peice of paper towel if it's a stable nice temp in my room an that holds the temp steady....

I also have tape around the whole edge of my incubators top lid so that it takes the humidity and heat jsut that little second longer to seep out...i also have a towel wrapped up around the one side of the bator and it realy seems to make a huge difference...

wheni need more humidity i get soem really hot water, i have two cups in the bator, one with a folded up paper towel standing up in it...i sprinkle water directly on that towel and the excess water flows into the cup....the other cup i just pour water into as it's a shallow container...then i pour more water into the basins inthe bottom, and i haev about 3 folded paper towels in there that are just laying in there that i dampen with the hot water...

five mins later, ive got 68-70 humidity adn it'll stay taht way for days unless i open the bator up.

My temps actually fluctuate more than my humidity does but through trial and error i keep it easily around 99.5-102.

Looking good! What you gotta do next is try it again with the same source and switch the sides the eggs are on. Repeat it a few times and a few hundred chicks later you'll be good to do it a few more times. LOL
