he he i missed some of the pop corn effect my pharoah coturnixs did, i was watching one chick looked up a the bator a second later and there was two chicks in tehre...i was like what the...? because both eggs had no pips (that i seen) just a few moments before yet there before me in the bator was two wet chicks..ha ha.

I missed the popcorn affect today. For me it was my cellphone ringing every 5 minutes.

Yes - that is normally what I do and it has always worked just fine. PC, in order to get the humidity up to 65% I did just that - a sponge and wet paper towel and no problems. This time though when I put the plug in and it went DOWN...I'm confused. I even turned the dehumidifier off in the basement but that hasn't helped. Will just cross my fingers and hope for the best.

On the 28 out of 35 hatch that I did two weeks ago, they were not shipped eggs - they were from our chickens and every egg was fertile and had chicks growing. I had one last one hatch on day 24 and after on day 25 after no activity, I dumped it. The later the hatches go, the more problems. I just couldn't bring myself to open the last of the eggs but was pleased with 80%. Best hatch ever and I will only use the egg cartons from now on.

I was hoping you were following this post. We needed your sharp scientific mind
in here.

Nice try. I think it's safe to assume the sides have the same conditions considering
the the type of bator and all the thermometers and hydrometers I have in there.
A for effort

This will be my last hatch in my Brinsea and my last hatch until we buy land and build
a new house on it. I'm so thankful it has been a great one.

I've been using the cartons for a little while now, and for chickens and coturnix, it works just fine. I'm of a mind with Wolf-Kim that the chicks can get more leverage when the eggs are held stable and not being biffed around by rambunctious sibs. HOWEVER... it is not recommended for Button quail. I lost one, and nearly lost another, because they're actually small enough to crawl under the dang carton and squish themselves to death. It works great to hatch them, but you gotta watch them little buggers.

I've also had one coturnix that likes to run through the waterer, get all wet, then get himself stuck like a squished bug between the waterer and the brooder wall... again...

The "popcorn phase" really comes at about a week when they start testing their wings. They get their wing feathers first (escape mechanism) so they're popping up and flitting around pretty darn quick. Especially the Buttons. OMG... watch out for them!

Congratulations on your successful hatch... no matter HOW you did it, you did it, and you have some beautiful babies there. You also got the brass ring, there, with your golden!! (If it's a girl, can I have it? My one golden is a male...)

You know PC, I wouldn't mind incubator sitting for you

I thought about that but you have enough bators already and Ed would shoot me.

I'll be listing it for sale in a week or two if the person who is supposed to buy it backs
out.

They're different. The browns are pretty, but plain compared to the goldens.

Your selling it! Aw PC don't do that, I just won't use my other 'bators

What ever you do don't sell it!

You know how that individual bator works now and know how to deal with it. Even the same model of bator found a few years from now might not work the same! Keep it!!
