Thank you so much for your help. I've been researching coccodiosis and it seems like my quail may have caught a strain of it. I clean their feed and water every day and their brooder once every 2 days. Although, I am on a trip right now and I can't clean it as frequently that is probably why they caught it.
What could I possibly do to prevent my quail from catching it? I have to leave my quail with my nan soon and she can't clean their cage daily (that's what I do). They have a 2 layer rabbit run and only go onto the second layer to dust bath.

Just make sure she keeps their area clean and free of poop or any bad stuff. They should also have their feeders and waterers cleaned every day so there's no bacteria build up. That will mostly ensure that they stay healthy and happy until you return to get them from her. Also keep them away from any bad air conditions, because although yes they get dust everywhere when they dust bath it's only a minute or two, but living in bad air can cause very bad lung problems.

Hey all. I noticed that some of my gambels quail (the 1st batch. They are 5 weeks old Now) I noticed that 2 out of the 10 had shorter knots on their head. Does this mean they are females or just their growth is lagging behind? With my scaled quail it took almost 7 months before I was able to sex them. How soon will I be able to sex these gambels?

Honestly I don't know, but I'd guess with how wierd the batch seems to be with a few dieing. It might just be they are a bit behind on feather growth.

Maybe. The 1st batch and 2nd batch have been my healthiest batches. I have only had 2 die between the 2 batches. The 3rd and 4th batches are the ones I started losing birds left and right.

I think from what I've learned the more curved and long it is means it more likely male. If it's shorter and it's not as curved it might be female, but at only 5 weeks old it's a lot harder to tell

When I was hand feeding the quail today (the eldest ones) I noticed rusty brown feather growth on 7 of the 10. I think I have confirmed that I only have 2-3 females. Also I noticed a weird behavior today. I put the youngest chicks outside with the eldest chicks today for a short period of time, and one of the males started acting like their father. (They were following him around, he lead them to the feeder and waterer, he wouldn't let them out of his sight, and he even charged me when I got to close) I'm so confused he is only 5 weeks old and the chicks just turned 1 week. I want to see what would happen if I left some chicks out with him but at the same time I don't know if it was just a spur of the moment thing. What do you all think?
