I'm pretty much making this thread to document my journey with my new coturnix quails that I got this past weekend. I had already ordered an enclosure for them and a coop and now just waiting on people to assemble it for me. Yeah, I could do that on my own with the help of my dad, buuuttt I thought it'd be easier to have other people to do the work much quicker and better.

I got five quails from a swap meet. All females, I believe. Considering getting some males maybe later on to see how this first batch holds up.

Currently have them in the house at night and outdoors in the day in my old chicken enclosure now turned into a greenhouse.

If the former chicken coop turned green house is predator proof, there's probably no reason to have ordered another enclosure, depending on the square footage of the enclosure, and protection from the elements, of course, unless you just wanted too! Many people raise quail in green houses.
Good luck with your quail.

I had wanted to use the greenhouse for their home, but the bottom and some of the sides aren't secure so predators can get in through some holes that I can't find or if they dig. We don't have the top covered either so hawks can get in.... And I am not sure if squirrels or raccoons got my quails the last time I had some. I had them in a cage in the greenhouse and the next morning they were gone. Just feathers. Something knew how to open doors.
If the new enclosure is less secure then yeah I'd move some plants around to let the quails reside in that instead. Would just have to get more coverings for the top and sides.

I'd wait until you get 5 eggs a day before looking into a male - some of yours are not feather sexable, so it's possible you have a male on accident/on purpose depending on how honest the seller was.
Right. I was going to wait a bit. So far no crowing from the white ones.

An update on the new enclosure-

Sooo Amazon home services contractors weren't able to finish building it due to errors on some materials and they can't modify the stuff due to liability reasons and company policy. They're just there to assemble things.

The elbow connecting parts had the wrong holes on the wrong side, the instructions were worse. On Amazon's image it has the door on the front. But in the booklet the doors are on the sides in one diagram and on the front on another and so the parts for the connectors were messed up.

I already assembled the frame without drilling extra holes but that probably isn't gonna be too stable so we might do that tomorrow...

Was missing a quail until I found it in the neighbor's property. Was putting some discarded bean shells into our compost tumbler and when I went back to the greenhouse to check on the quails I noticed a white one was missing. Didn't realize they could fly that high and far. 🤣
