Coturnix are definitely tough little buggers. We had over a foot of snow dumped on us, followed by another 6 inches just days later. Despite the bitter cold, the quail were out and about in the snow like they couldn't care less about it. They did take advantage of the inside of the coop and it's heat lamp on occasion, but they were running in and out all day. The ones that opted to sleep outside just fluffed out to keep their toes warm and no one ended up with even a hint of frostbite. Now we are up in 70s for daytime temperatures and they are laying eggs like crazy.

Us Missippians got two 4" snows within a month apart for the first time in 10 - 12 - 14 (heck, I don't know) years, and I was sick of it after the first day. The sub-freezing temps afterwards froze all my waterers up quickly, and had to go overboard to get water for the birds. Y'all can have all the snow and ice.........and come July and August......y'all can come get some'a that 115º heat index too.......

The snow this year was kind of a freak occurrence. We normally get a nasty ice storm or two, plus a good scorching heat that turns most of the region into a tinderbox.
