Hi I’m wondering if somebody could give me advice on this.
One of my quail who usually lays every single day without fail missed a day yesterday however this morning I woke up to find she had laid her egg however it looks different than usual. I’ll attach photos below. I wondered if it may just be dirty so I tried to rinse it but nothing came off and also I don’t know what would have caused it to become this colour as they’re kept in a guinea pig cage with hay and sawdust. Any advice? I’m sure it’s nothing to be worried about but I just wanted to check. Thanks! The first photo shows today’s egg on the left and what they usually look like on the right. The second photo shows the other side of the egg.

It is totally fine. They can sometimes lay such eggs. Its nothing to worry about.
I think the reason for the egg to be like this is that the eggdid not complete its time in that part of hen's body where it is given the coloration (specks). She must have laid the egg earlier than usual. Nothing to be concerned about.

Looks like the egg sat inside her body a little too long.

What do you feed her?

We originally fed them Marriages layers feed but now we feed them Farmgate super omega mash as well as mealworms and oyster shells regularly. Yesterday we moved them into a different cage so I thought this could have prevented her laying on time.
