Quail not hatching after piping....

I am hatching quail eggs right now and there hatch day was Friday the 12. One pipped but nothing happened that day. Saturday another pipped and hatched that night but the first had made no progress but it is still alive. Now it is Sunday and the last one pipped but the first is still the same no change but I know it is alive because I can see the beak. What should I do?

Is it chirping loudly like it’s in distress? Or breathing slowing?

I would carefully start removing (zipping) the shell. Any blood stop. Go slow, I use pointy tweezers when I assist, (chicken never hatched quail yet). They are easy to get into small places with out puncturing anything. Keep membrain moist, most say coconut oil. I have used warm water but keep under heat. I normally remove just enough shell so they can finish on their own.

Thank you so much the second one to pip hatched so then I took one small piece of shell off and I guess that is all it needed because on day 3 it hatched then the third one I assisted most of the hatch because it did not have a nuff strength to hatch!

I would do the same. I did it for two. One is amazing, the other didn’t make it but both I think would have died in the shell as somehow the membrane got too hard. Incubating is unnatural and sometimes we make mistakes. That’s the advice I took
And my gorgeous little roo is proof sometimes interfering is worth it. But truth is sometimes it isn’t. We humanely and peacefully culled the sick one. I’d do it all again! But next time I’ll not open the damn box for any reason!
