Quail Piping?

So today is about 6 hours into day 17 of my first ever incubation for Coturnix quail (and in general!) I’ve been sitting around the incubator all day checking for pips and whistling to see if I could hear any response. Nothing!
But just now, as I was refilling the water in the incubator before I went to bed I thought I’d candle one of the eggs to see if there was an internal pip or anything, but when I picked it up i saw a pip (I think )!
Im going to go to bed and see if anything’s happened in the morning!

Honestly wasn’t expecting any to even attempt to hatch this time round! As day 10 candling showed only 3-4 eggs (out of 15) were dark and developing, the day by day guide someone posted on here sure helped a lot!
Gosh I hope this little guy comes out!
I will keep you guys updated!

Good luck! Fingers crossed . Seems like they are on track. Just remember they'll sit at the pipped stage for up to 24 hours (I've had one go 36 hours) before they start to unzip, so just let them do their thing. Be prepared for another day of hovering (we've all done it, and continue to do it) .

Gosh i hope so! I just woke up this morning to nothing yet! And there isn’t even a hole in the shell! Just looks the same as yesterday... a little outwards dent/crack

Can they breathe in there? I hope so! because it still is just a dent... cant see a beak or anything yet...

I’ve gotten to a point where I purposely plan my hatches during workweek so I’m not hovering....most of mine have hatched in the first 12 hours as long as I’ve not been here to watch and interfere but many times the first pip is not the first to hatch either. First hatch is always the hardest!! Go to quail hatch a long thread on here (we’re at 650 pages or so now). Read at least 100 pages before checking the bator and be sure to look at all video links etc along the way!!

Gosh! I’m going to be so sad if no one hatches out after 2 weeks of manual turning.
It’s been almost 24 hours since the pip, should i try to help it? (if it even is alive in there?) or should i just wait another night and check tomorrow morning?

Have you read through any of the really good assisted hatch articles on this site?

( from your first post... o take it you have never assisted with hatch?)

If you CAREFULLY read through a couple of the detailed with photos assisted hatch articles... and think you understand the main points...

Then yes... I would peek inside at least one of the eggs.

Quail usually are NOT that slow.
