Hello!!
I’ve been wanting quail for quite some time. I really want to be prepared though. If I get them, I’d be incubating quail eggs. Not sure what kind of quail yet, but I do want some.
What do they eat?
Cage type?
Male to female ratio?
Disposition?
Hot weather hardy?
Etc
Thanks!

I love mountain quail! They are super sweet and extremely pretty. I would keep 2 hens per a male. Here is a picture of one. I can post more information tomorrow I'm really tired and have been up since 6am this morning! :th

I have button quail. I have 4 houses for them, one set is in a big aquarium. 3 hens to one roo. In my biggest house, which is an enclosure outside, I have 2 roos to six hens. They get Along and no issues. They are easy pets and don't require much besides fresh water, food and some hide outs to play in. They eat 16 percent layer crumble. When they were babies, they were on 24 percent crumble.
I sell their hatching eggs if you are interested, you can find me on Ebay.

@Rose Quartz, awesome post. I was going to suggest read, read, read, but you actually gave stuff TO read.
Im also new to quail and I've only done Coturnix. But I did a lot of reading here before I started. They're an easy, dual purpose breed that isn't as spooky as bobwhites and other "wild" type birds (from my understanding) though those are prettier sometimes. Whichever kind you get, chicks get a high protein game feed , higher than chicken chicks. And I just learned (on this site, of course) that some people feed that same gamebird chick feed to their adult quail too. So, to keep from having a billion kinds of food, I will probably do the same, since it won't hurt them. Coturnix are easy for beginners. Oh AND no permits from the state to own them. That's a big plus, as a lot of other quail require permits to raise. Not real expensive, but a PIA nonetheless. Do your research, for sure.
One more thing, theres a guy on YouTube called "Slightly rednecked" who has some good, practical information too.

^u^ I had it saved up for my own use so it wasn't any harder to share it. And now any one who searches and finds this will have it too.
