Quaker Parrots...

I know mine knows too many words! He has no problem speaking his mind, unless a stranger comes over that he's not sure of. He knows nursery songs and will mix them together and laugh. He tells me when his cage is dirty, when he wants to eat, go to bed, lift up my wing, stick out my tongue, sing him a song, he even tells my husband what to do!

He was in my baby chick room and if he herd a chick hatching in the bator he would tell me....... It's a Baby!

I have a green quaker named Pollie ( she came with that name ) - she was living in a very abusive house with a jerk of an owner - who would clip her wings to short let her stand there bleeding in her cage - when Pollie would bite because it hurt he would yell at her splash beer in her face or hit her - not a very good home for any critter to be in

well I ended up babysitting her while the jerk guy and his family were having issues and after about a month of being with me - me and Pollie started to bond - they finally came over to vist her and Pollie walked right up the wifes arm and bite her in the face ! of course they threw Pollie in her cage yelling and screaming at her
I put my foot down and told them enough of that crap I was keeping the bird ! I had to pay the jerk 200.00 for Pollie and her cage it was money well spent.

she has been with me now for 6 yrs and she has not fully gotten over the abuse she will not let my DH anywhere near her I can not clip her wings or toe nails with triggering bad memories for her.

she has a HUGE vocab - she can say peek-a-boo, what- come here - pretty bird -- good girl -- good boy -- Dixie ( name of the dog ) -- thank you -- OW -- barks like a dog -- whines like a puppy - coughs -- beeps like a smoke alarm needing a new battery -- and she can also the " F U" words ( something she learned at her old home thank fully she does not say it often ).

for the most part she is a great bird but she has issues now from her old home that we are still dealing with.

Unfortunately all parrots were gifted with a long memory.
My friends has a Citrine Cockatoo with some of the same issues, he has been with her for 20 years and still there are hand issues, wing clipping and beak trimming,( due to bad feeding habits at old residence, cant even call that a home).
Poor Zed will have issues for the ret of his life, due to being stressed out by teenage boys, he is a plucker. its so sad to see a naked cockatoo.
sorry got off subject trying to make the point of memory being long lasting.
Glad you got the bird from the jerks, and for once I can say I am glad the bird bit the woman.
She chose her forever home that day , Lucky You.
though in a case of abuse like that , I would have told them you abandoned the bird I refuse to pay anything, you owe me and the bird.
